Inside look: Brick Bay Folly 2019

This video from the Brick Bay Sculpture Trail goes behind the scenes of the conception, construction and unveiling of the winning project in this year’s Brick Bay Folly. The Wood Pavilion was designed and built by four first-year MArch students at the University of Auckland’s School of Architecture and Planning – Leo Zhu, Dorien Viliamu, Daniel Fennell and Wenhan Ji – with the help of industry mentors.

Here, Brick Bay owner and Director, Richard Didsbury, talks about the inception of the Folly programme, and the students and mentors talk about their experience creating The Wood Pavilion:

The 2019 Brick Bay Folly winner received a $30,000 grant (comprised of $15,000 from Resene, $10,000 in building supplies from Naylor Love and $5000 from the Brick Bay Sculpture Trust) and was also supported by Brick Bay, Unitec, University of Auckland, Leighs Construction, New Zealand Institute of Architects, Architecture New Zealand and ArchitectureNow. Photography was provided by Samuel Hartnett.
