Model Citizens returns for Auckland Architecture Week 2022

We've reimagined and reinvigorated our popular Model Citizens competition for the 2022 Auckland Architecture Week.

The first iteration of the Model citizens event, held in October 2019, was hugely popular, so we’ve reimagined and reinvigorated the format for Auckland Architecture Week 2022. Model Citizens 2.0 will be held on Thursday 15 September from 5:00 -8:30pm at the Kada showroom, Parnell.

Model Citizens 2.0 will gather teams from top architecture and design firms for a friendly object-making competition. So, we challenge you to put your creativity and design skills to the test. Teams of six will be required to create a yet-to-be-revealed object with yet-to-be-revealed materials and you will need to create this object to the yet-to-be-revealed brief. The winning team will take home the prestigious Model Citizens Trophy – currently held by Athfield Architects – and ultimate bragging rights.

The entry fee is $300 per team, with all funds raised donated to Solar Aid, a charity whose mission is to light up every home, school, and clinic in Africa by 2030 using safe, clean, solar power.

The judging panel on the night will be comprised of Professor Andrew Barrie of the University of Auckland (model-maker extraordinaire), David Trubridge (legendary designer), and Jacinda Rogers (editor of ArchitectureNow). Drinks and nibbles will be provided.

Update 23 August: all team spots have been filled, however you can complete the form and the join the waitlist.

Register your team’s interest here.

*Note that spots are limited and registering your interest does guarantee your team a spot in this event.
