An urban activist group has planned a rally in opposition to the proposed 90m extension to Queens Wharf in Auckland.

After a protest in 2015, activist group Stop Stealing our Harbours has planned another demonstration for 10 March 2019. This time, the group is rallying together to show their opposition to the addition of two “dolphins” – concrete extensions to the end of Queens Wharf.

The extensions are proposed to give additional space to large cruise ships docking. However, opposition groups believe that it would take away valuable space for pedestrians and recreation activities. And independent commissioner’s hearing has been taking place this week with both sides arguing their case.

The Stop Stealing our Harbours protest rally is planned to take place on 10 March with those on foot gathering at the north end of Queen’s Wharf and those coming by boat mustering off Queen’s Wharf. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
