Auckland Transport has named Grimshaw (Australia) as principal technical advisor of the $2.86b City Rail Link project. The firm will be part of a consortium, led by Aurecon and including Mott MacDonald and Jasmax, undertaking the reference design for the 3.5km underground rail link, which will connect Britomart station to Eden Terrace.

The project includes three new city centre stations and modifications to the existing Britomart station, allowing for six trains per hour from most Auckland stations. Other components of the reference design include support services for the civil works, E&M, signalling and communications, electrification, safety systems and risk management.

The Auckland City Rail Link project is the latest in a number of rail and mass transit projects for Grimshaw including Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, the North West Rail Link in Sydney, Fulton Street Station in New York City, and Waterloo, Paddington, Euston, and London Bridge Stations in London.
