Sculpture in the Garden kicks off on Saturday 9 October at Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Twenty-one artworks are almost ready for viewing at Auckland’s Botanic Gardens, The sculptures will appear in the Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition that starts this Saturday, 9 October.

The event’s curators, Alexa Johnston, Rachel de Lambert and Richard Mathieson selected 21 sculptures from 71 submissions.

‘Wishing for St Francis’ by Bing Dawe, one of last year’s featured sculptures.

The selected artists are: Lucy Bucknall, Bronwynne Cornish, Bing Dawe, Todd Douglas, John Edgar, Gill Gatfield, Regan Gentry, Bev Goodwin, Mia Hamilton, Christine Hellyar, Tui Hobson, Chris Moore, John Oxborough, Jamie Pickernell, Terry Stringer collaboration, Jeff Thomson, Bryan Verey, Richard Wedekind, Jim Wheeler, Lgop co-op (Suza, Warwick Bell, Isaac McCormick) and Llew Summers.

The Terry Stringer collaboration includes the work of Terry and Graham Bennett, Tanya Blong, Bill Hayes, Bryan Jones, Virginia King, Samantha Lissette, Lauren Lysaght, Richard McWhannell, Christine Massey, John Papas, Marte Szirmay, Greer Twiss and Jim Wheeler.

Sculpture in the Gardens will be held between 9 October 2011 and 12 February 2012. Large-scale sculptures will be positioned along a trail through the garden collections. Entry is free and events, such as music, children’s programmes and guided walks, are held during the exhibition.
