An upcoming exhibition at the State Library of Queensland’s Asia Pacific Design Library will trace the past decade of Australian landscape architecture as seen through the lenses of some of the country’s leading photographers.

Curated by Landscape Architecture Australia’s editorial director Cameron Bruhn and assistant editor Ricky Ray Ricardo, Site Seeing will present eight of the most engaging works of landscape architecture from the past ten years through a suite of iconic images by leading Australian architectural photographers including John Gollings, Christopher Frederick Jones and Dianna Snape.

Gollings, who has photographed landscape architecture in Australia and internationally throughout his career, says, “The newest landscape work in Australia is very exciting and the public is responding accordingly. Unlike buildings, landscapes are accessible to everyone and add richness to our lives. Getting it on film, with the energy of people interacting with it along with the perfect light makes it all worthwhile.”

“Site Seeing will examine the relationship between beauty and expertise in contemporary Australian landscape architecture,” says Bruhn. “These images adroitly capture and document important works from across Australia, but at the same time use the medium of photography to transport and inspire the viewer.”

To provide an insight into the relationship between the art and the science of landscape architecture, the exhibited photographs will be paired with working drawings of the projects. These drawings will capture both the content and the language of landscape architecture documentation.

The projects will also be exhibited with a QR code that will take visitors to a review of the project as it was originally published.

The exhibition coincides with the 2014 AILA Festival of Landscape Architecture in October - www.aila.org.au/forecast
