The latest sustainable products and services will be on show at the Sustainable City Showcase on 17-19 October at The Cloud on Queens Wharf, Auckland, showing visitors how taking small steps towards sustainability by making good choices also feels good.

The weekend will be crammed with workshops, inspirational talks and the latest designs and technology to enhance a sustainable lifestyle. The showcase is open to the public and entrance is free.

Rachel Brown, CEO of the Sustainable Business Network says that visitors who are already conscious consumers will be encouraged to take their sustainability one step further, while concerned Kiwis who want to care for the environment but aren’t quite sure how, will be shown small, manageable steps to becoming more sustainable.

“As consumers we have tremendous power; every dollar we spend is an opportunity to support sustainable business.

“The Sustainable City Showcase is the ideal place to feel good about where your money is going and enjoy learning about sustainability at the same time.”

120 exhibitors include the latest in sustainable transport options as well as home and business solutions, so visitors can learn how to create a sustainable office and home by either building or retrofitting. The lifestyle section will showcase organic products for the face and body and the latest in sustainable garments. Even pets will have a sustainable and healthy option with Raw Essentials, a pet food company that looks after animals’ health with sustainable pet food.

Delicious organic food and beverages from a selection of vendors will be available throughout the day in the farmers market come café and garden bar, in a family-friendly environment.

Kids will be the focus on Saturday, with the award-winning Sustainable Coastlines Education station running ‘trash to treasure’ workshops in a purpose-built shipping container, so bring the whole family along for a day of fun and learning.

Visitors will hear from Katja Leitz, Hobsonville Land Co, about its vision for designing sustainable communities and creating a sustainable home. Other inspiring speakers include Pete Russell from Ooooby and Malcom Rands from ecostore. The Community zone will include a number of social enterprises and organisations working towards improving our community.

Other events at the Sustainable City Showcase include a buzzing Friday Night Market, where the audience will be entertained by George FM DJs in a perfect atmosphere for Friday after-work drinks.

Generation Zero will hold its ‘What’s the hold up?’ event on 18 October, demonstrating how the people of Auckland can work together to create a liveable, low-carbon city. Generation Zero will focus on this vision through interactive displays, expert speakers, table talk discussion and design installations for a future beyond fossil fuels.
