3D printing lecture series

A three-part lecture series in October on the topic of 3D printing will continue to build the reputation of Hutt City Libraries as a leader in science and technology.

War Memorial Library staff have organised the lecture series, bringing in local and national leaders in 3D printing from across New Zealand to speak.

All lectures are free and will be held from 7-8pm at Little Theatre, 2 Queens Drive, Lower Hutt.

Sandra Mann, Divisional Manager, Libraries says, “Hutt Valley is home to many of New Zealand’s scientific institutions and a significant number of high tech and manufacturing export businesses.

3D printing – Making and manufacturing
Wednesday 1 October

What is 3D printing anyway? What can you do with it? Scientist and artist Eleanor Howick will walk you through the basics of 3D printing and show inspiring examples of what’s happening around the world.

Dr Ian Brown from Callaghan Innovation will show how metal 3D printing is revolutionising the manufacturing of everything from knives to animal limbs.

Wednesday 8 October

What do stem cells, organs and joint replacements have in common with 3D printing? Be inspired and informed as Dr Tim Woodfield from Otago Medical School talks about his team’s world-leading research into regenerative medicine and 3D printing.

15 October

Can I 3D print my home? Discover how 3D printing is used to redesign all sorts of consumer items – from objects in your home and workplace to clothing, with Tim Miller of Victoria University’s School of Architecture and Design.
