The NZIA Health & Safety at Work Act seminar takes place on 25 November at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington.

The NZIA Health & Safety at Work Act seminar takes place on 25 November at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington.

The Health and Safety Reform Bill that was finally passed by Parliament on 27 August 2015 is very significant for the designer. The new law, now named the Health and Safety at Work Act, will come into effect on 4 April 2016.

The key changes in the new Act are about people and there is a clear focus on creating roles and responsibilities and empowering people in the workplace. New rules regarding Safety in Design also have major implications for designers.

This seminar will alert members to their changing responsibilities both as employers and as designers under the new Act.

Speakers:
1. Stacey Shortall, a partner with Minter Ellison Rudd Watts lawyers will provide an overview of the Act.
2. As the Regulator for the new Heath and Safety at Work Act, Worksafe NZ will be providing a speaker to present at the seminar.
3. The new Act is very reflective of Health and Safety Legislation in Australia so we are also looking to engage two Australian architectural practices to share their experiences.

These speakers will be advised at a later date.

Registration: 9.00 am - 9.30 am
Seminar: 9.30 am - 11.30 am
