This year will see the return of the Auckland Branch of Te Kahui Whaihanga’s Architecture Week with the theme ‘Indigenous Perspectives’.

Auckland branch chair Megan Rule said Architecture Week creates opportunities for public dialogue on design concerns which she says “is particularly important as we experience a momentous regulatory change in urban intensification and building performance, not to mention mental health and wellbeing.”

“Architecture Week is an opportunity to explore, celebrate and reflect on our homegrown culture and the design processes that shape our region.”

The 2022 programme is packed with talks, walks and events around the Auckland isthmus and as far north as Whangārei. Event updates can be found here.

Thursday 15 September

Model Citizens presented by Architecture New Zealand
A fun comp where you create an architectural object in teams. The judging panel this year has Professor Andrew Barrie of the University of Auckland (model-maker extraordinaire), David Trubridge (iconic designer), and Jacinda Rogers (editor of ArchitectureNow). Fast Forward Lecture Series: Timothy Hill — Provocations on Time

Toi Hanga Wananga, Whangarei, Te Tai Tokerau

International Park(ing) Day
Park(ing) day is a global, public, participatory art project launched by Rebar in 2005. It is a day when people across the world temporarily repurpose street parking spaces and convert them to tiny parks and places for art, play, and activism.
