Australian landscape architect Richard Weller has been appointed creative director of the 2016 International Festival of Landscape Architecture.

The festival will host the 2016 International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Asia-Pacific Regional Congress.

Weller is best known for his design of the Garden of Australian Dreams at the ARM-designed National Museum of Australia in Canberra. The garden will be host to the festival’s welcome reception.

Weller is currently a professor and chair of landscape architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, and creative director of its interdisciplinary journal, LA+. He has won over 30 prizes in international design competitions, written four books and published over 90 academic papers. Weller is also a board member of the Landscape Architecture Foundation in Washington and a judge of the 2015 American Society of Landscape Architects awards.

The 2016 International Festival of Landscape Architecture will be a key event in the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects’ 2016 Festival of Landscape Architecture which also includes a research summit, student charrette, welcome reception, the National Landscape Architecture Awards along with a host of public talks, tours and exhibitions.

The festival will be held 27-29 October 2016 in Canberra.
